Permit Application

Information required for an ITAC Import permit

Many products are subject to an import permit from the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC).

The importer has to be in possession of an import permit before the goods may be shipped. Similarly goods that are subject to export permits may not be shipped before the exporter is in possession of an export permit.

The importer or exporter has to be registered with SARS Customs before he/she can apply for an import or export permit. The importer DOES NOT need an import license before he/she can start importing. However, the imported products may be subject to an import permit (license), depending on the HS subheading of the goods. All used/second hand goods and waste and scrap are subject to import permits.

When applying for an import permit for the first time, the importer/exporter also has to register with ITAC.

A COPY OF THE TAX CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE OF THE BUSINESS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION.
